The University Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is a higher education institution under the association of Muhammadiyah, which was established in 1958 and later founded on October 24, 1981, as IKIP Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Primarily, UMS was a Surakarta branch originated in Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, known as Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), that only offered General Education, General Economics, and Islamic Education in Bachelor Degree programs. Years later, other study programs were added to meet the demands and needs of society. As one of the private universities in Indonesia with the highest number of excellence, the UMS continues to provide excellence in all degrees of Bachelor's, Masteral, and Doctoral to achieve a progressive education center that relies on the noble values of Islam.

UMS is located in the cultured and historical city of Surakarta, specifically in the main road area that is accessible in the surrounding cities. The university were divided into four different campuses, such as the Campus 1 (where FKIP was located), Campus 2 (where Siti Walidah can be found), Campus 3 (for Faculty of Dentistry), and Campus 4 (where Students Boarding House, KH Mas Mansur Mosque, and Faculty of Medicine is located).
